The Westhaven Promenade runs along Auckland’s inner harbour from Wynyard Quarter west to the Auckland Harbour Bridge — a flat, scenic waterfront path through one of the city’s largest marina precincts. It’s a short ride on its own, but it’s also the western anchor of a 13km coastal route that continues all the way to St Heliers, making it a natural starting point for one of the city’s great waterfront cycling days.

The Route
The promenade begins at Daldy Street in Wynyard Quarter and follows the inner harbour edge through Westhaven, passing the forest of marina masts before reaching the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The path crosses beneath the bridge structure, offering a close-up view of the underside that’s surprisingly impressive from water level.
From Westhaven the route can continue east through Silo Park, the Viaduct, and Wynyard Quarter’s hospitality precinct, then on via Tamaki Drive through Mission Bay, Kohimarama, and St Heliers for the full 13km waterfront ride. The promenade forms the western section of what will eventually be a 21km continuous cycleway from the Harbour Bridge to St Heliers.
Evening Riding
The Harbour Bridge’s Vector Lights are a noted attraction after dark — visible from the promenade as a light show projected onto the bridge structure. An evening ride along the promenade with the bridge lit and the marina reflected in the water is a genuinely good Auckland experience.
