The Walk and What to Combine
The Karamatura Loop Walk from the Huia Campground car park follows the Karamatura Stream upstream through native bush, with timber bridges crossing the stream at several points. The falls themselves are reached after about 45–60 minutes of moderate walking; the full loop can be done in 2–3 hours including stops. The combination of waterfall, swimming pools and bush walking makes this one of the more rewarding Huia-area outings.
Kauri-Dieback Hygiene
The Waitākere Ranges have been heavily affected by kauri dieback and Karamatura tracks have been re-opened with upgraded boardwalk and mandatory hygiene station use. Clean all soil from boot soles, scrub thoroughly, then spray with disinfectant. Stay on the formed track throughout. Dogs are not permitted in the Waitākere Ranges.
