About Te Ara ki Uta ki Tai
The path has been built in sections, starting at the Glen Innes end. The first runs from Merton Road to St Johns Road, and the second, 2.65 km from St Johns Road to Ōrākei Basin, was completed in May 2022. Together they make up the 6 km you can use now.
It is built for everyday travel as much as for weekend rides: wide, kept apart from road traffic, and fitted with lighting and CCTV so it can be used for longer hours. People on foot and on bikes share it, so expect walkers and ride to the conditions.
Further work is planned to take the path from Ōrākei Basin to Tāmaki Drive; AT’s project page has the details.
