Panmure is a transitional East Auckland suburb on the Tāmaki Estuary — combining the historic Panmure village commercial strip with the Panmure Bridge ferry/train interchange, major Kāinga Ora regeneration in surrounding areas, and the increasingly popular Panmure Basin walkway around the volcanic crater lake.
Panmure also takes in the local area known as Tāmaki.

Panmure is one of Auckland’s most transitional inner-east suburbs — historic Panmure village combined with major transport investment (the Panmure Station and AMETI bus interchange) plus Kāinga Ora regeneration programmes reshaping surrounding state-housing areas. The combination is reshaping much of Panmure’s character through the 2020s.
Panmure Basin
The Panmure Basin is a volcanic crater lake (one of the Auckland Volcanic Field’s distinctive features) — substantial circular tidal lake with a perimeter walking/cycling track that’s one of East Auckland’s most popular recreational walks. The basin connects to the Tāmaki Estuary via a narrow channel under the bridge.
Panmure Station and AMETI
Panmure Station on the Eastern Line is a major train + bus interchange — direct rail access to Britomart (~15 min) plus the AMETI bus interchange handling key East Auckland bus connections. The station was substantially upgraded as part of the AMETI (Auckland-Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative) infrastructure programme. The combination makes Panmure one of Auckland’s better-connected eastern suburbs.
