About Pūhoi to Remiger Road Track
From the Pūhoi Domain car park, the track climbs through the council reserve and onto an open ridge with fine views over the village and the surrounding valley. Stock may be grazing the lower part of the ridge.
From the ridge the track enters Pūhoi Scenic Reserve for a level stroll through podocarp forest. DOC notes kauri, mature pūriri, tōtara and nīkau along this section.
A fence stile marks the western edge of the reserve. Here you can head back to the open ridge and complete an anticlockwise loop to the car park, or continue on Te Araroa towards Remiger Road. This next section crosses private land, including some recently harvested pine forest, so keep to the formed trail.
Getting There
The main entrance is at the Pūhoi Domain, across the bridge from the historic Pūhoi Pub; the track starts beside the toilet block.
The western end is at Remiger Road, about 4 km from Pūhoi, where there is parking for several cars. DOC notes the swing bridge there has been removed: walk across the road bridge towards Ahuroa, then cross the small stream to join the marked track.
Track Conditions
DOC warns that the track above the Domain can be slippery and muddy in winter, and stock may be grazing on the lower ridge. Check DOC before you go, and tell someone your plans.
