About the Skatepark
Barry Curtis Skatepark is part of the wider Barry Curtis Park complex in Flat Bush — at 94 hectares, one of New Zealand’s largest public parks and the biggest new greenfield Auckland park established since the Auckland Domain in the 1840s. The skatepark sits within the park as one of several distinct recreation elements, alongside the destination playground (with junior and senior play areas, water play, shade sails), sports fields, basketball court, accessible toilets and changing rooms, and BBQ areas in the adjacent Wetlands Building.
For families with one child wanting to skate and others wanting playground time, the layout means everyone can be occupied at the same site. Drinking fountains are placed near the skatepark plus at other points around the park.
Gate Hours
Barry Curtis Park is gated and operates set opening hours — 7am to 9pm in summer, 7am to 7pm in winter. This is unusual for an Auckland park (most are open-access 24/7) but reflects the park’s size and management approach. Plan skate visits within these hours.
