About Hauraki
Hauraki is a small residential suburb between Takapuna (north) and Belmont (south) — established streets of weatherboard villas and bungalows mixed with newer infill housing. The suburb’s appeal is largely from its proximity to Takapuna — walking distance to the Takapuna village commercial centre, Takapuna Beach and the Sunday Markets — combined with a quieter residential character than Takapuna itself.
Adjacent Takapuna Amenities
Hauraki residents have full Takapuna village amenities within walking distance: major retail and supermarkets, the Takapuna Beach foreshore, the Sunday Markets, cafes and restaurants. Lake Pupuke sits immediately to the west of Hauraki — Auckland’s only sizeable urban freshwater lake, with walking paths around the perimeter and summer swimming. The combination of beach access (Takapuna Beach 10-min walk), lake access (Lake Pupuke 5-min walk) and village amenities is rare for an inner Auckland suburb.
Transport and Schools
Frequent buses on Lake Road give CBD access via the Auckland Harbour Bridge. The Takapuna interchange on SH1 is immediately adjacent — fast motorway access for North Shore commuters. The Westlake Boys and Westlake Girls High School zones extend into Hauraki, giving access to two of the North Shore’s most sought-after state secondary schools.
